Since 1964, the Warrenville Park District has provided activities that enrich the mind, body, and spirit.
It began from humble beginnings and has grown to include nine parks and other facilities.
At 28 acres, Summerlakes Park is a sports enthusiast’s dream. It’s where locals gather to enjoy tennis, baseball, and the challenging horizontal rock climbing wall. The park is also the home of the Ferry Creek Wetland Restoration. Spanning six acres, the wetland allows visitors to explore the beauty of a natural setting. The landscape benefits wildlife and water conservation, and it’s not uncommon to see birds fluttering about.
Pack a basket full of fried chicken and enjoy a picnic at Cerny Park. Picnickers can spread a blanket or enjoy their meal under the shelter. After lunch, enjoy time on the court playing basketball or sand volleyball. There’s also a large grassy area that’s perfect for playing catch or throwing a Frisbee.
The park district offers exciting adult programs throughout the year. They’re a fun way to stay active, and highlights include:
Known as the “gentle art,” Brazilian jiu-jitsu combines judo, wrestling, gymnastics, and self-defense. Students learn basic techniques and gain strength and stamina through drills. The classes welcome all abilities and are both physically and mentally challenging.
Kayaking the DuPage
The Warrenville Park District and the DuPage County Forest Preserve have partnered to offer a unique kayaking experience. Participants learn how to paddle while learning about the history of the west branch of the DuPage River.
Pickleball is a fast-growing racquet sport. It’s played on a badminton court with a lowered net. Classes run weekly, and students learn skills such as lobbying, overhead slamming, and fast volley exchange.
